One in a series of experiments investigating the use of small electronics and open source programming as research, drawing, and construction tools, Phototaxis was a one-night installation in which we flew a quadcopter over a pedestrian street. The drone hovered over the street, flying a plotted flight path, releasing colored smoke, and collecting images of the crowd below. A projector looped these images back onto the street. The installation explored the resonances between surveillance and spectacle, between violence and play.
